Active School Week 2025

We had a fantastic time during Active School Week here at St Brigid's! The whole school embraced a fun-filled week of movement, energy, and team spirit, with each day offering a new opportunity to try something different and get active in exciting ways.

Monday – Football Day
We kicked off the week with Football! Our Junior Infants to First Class pupils enjoyed a fun training session with Mrs. Taaffe, learning ball skills and teamwork. Meanwhile, the rest of the school took part in a lively football blitz, with plenty of goals, great sportsmanship, and team effort on show.

Tuesday – Boxing Fitness
On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to visit the local boxing club. Each class had two sessions with Millie—one focused on a high-energy fitness circuit and the other on basic boxing skills. It was a brilliant way for the children to build strength, coordination, and confidence.

Wednesday – Mind and Body Movement
Wednesday brought a change of pace with Pilates and Gymnastics. Each class participated in calming and strengthening Pilates sessions, along with some creative gymnastics activities right in their classrooms.

Thursday – Sports Day
Sports Day was a definite highlight of the week! Children were divided into colour teams and started the day with a fantastic range of races including relays, egg and spoon, sack, 3-legged, and hurdles. After the races, teams competed in a fun and energetic dodgeball tournament, which was full of excitement and team spirit.
To add to the fun, we had a bouncing castle, football darts and an obstacle course organised by our wonderful Parents’ Association, which brought huge smiles to everyone's faces. After such a busy and active day, we were thrilled to have a delicious BBQ, giving everyone a chance to relax before we finished off with a whole school water fight!

Friday – Orienteering Adventure
To finish the week, the whole school took part in orienteering on the school grounds. Students were divided into groups and worked together to navigate and complete challenges in different parts of the school. It was a brilliant way to use teamwork and problem-solving skills while staying active outdoors.
